About Katrina

I assume you came here because you wanted to know more about me so here it goes…

I have been interested in photography for as long as I can remember. As a little girl I would run around with my purple 120mm Mickey Mouse point and shoot film camera taking pictures of anything and everything that was around me. This continued (but with better camera’s) up through high school where I was lucky enough to be able to take both photography minor (2 days a week) and photography major (5 days a week). Unlike the current digital trend we learned with good old black and white film in the dark room where we developed our own rolls of film and printed our own photographs. There was something magical about dropping your blank paper into a chemical bath and watching your image slowly appear as you shook it back and forth. I was hooked.

After high school I moved on to Lock Haven University of PA where I received my bachelors in studio art. I spent countless hours in the photo lab there working on my assignments as well as inadvertently coating my mouth and lungs with toxic photo chemicals all to perfect my skills as a photographer. Being a studio art major is also what provided me with my first experience traveling abroad. I had the opportunity to travel to Europe for a month to visit the major art museums and get a more hands on education not only about art but about other cultures. I can not speak highly enough about this program and how it has enriched my life. You can read more about this on my travel blog which can be found in the links section above.

With a solid 5 years worth of photography classes under my belt I was tossed out into the “real world” not really sure how to put my skills to good use. I took any job I could find just to pay the bills. One day back in 2005 a friend asked me to shoot some candid shots at her wedding. Not having had any prior wedding photography experience or proper equipment, I reluctantly agreed. Other friends getting married saw my work and asked me to shoot their weddings as well. Now here I am 4 years later with my own business booking weddings with total strangers. It has been a crazy ride so far but I wouldn’t change it for anything.

Now on a less serious note, here are a bunch of random tid bits about me that are not photography related so you can get to know me on more of a personal level.

- I LOVE to travel and try to take one big trip every year! I have a goal to see all 50 states and as many other countries as possible before I kick the bucket. So far I have been to more than half of the 50 states and have been to 7 other countries and still counting. Oddly enough I still have not been to Canada or Mexico.

- I ran cross country, indoor & outdoor track competitively all year round through middle school, high school and 5 years of college. If anyone has any extra cartilage lying around they can spare my knees will gladly take it.

- I am a movie fanatic! My entertainment center could easily be mistaken for a Blockbuster. If your looking for Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings keep on looking because you won’t find them in my collection!  What you will find in regular rotation in the DVD player are a ton of Romantic Comedies, All 3 Bourne Movies, Blue Crush, 21 and many others.

- I spend an absurd amount of time watching TV. I like to think it is a good background noise while editing. Thank you to whom ever invented the DVR I don’t know how I lived without it! You can catch me watching almost anything on the Versus channel including bull riding and the Tour de France, HGTV, The Travel Channel, TLC plus all of the Monday & Wednesday night CBS comedies, Southland, Friday Night Lights, The Office, All of the Law & Order’s and don’t forget my precious Gossip Girl & One Tree Hill. I wasn’t joking when I said an absurd amount.
