The weather for James’s 9 month shoot was less than ideal being January in Pennsylvania so while we were sad to be inside, I was very excited to get to use my new backdrops. While they may not be ideal for every shoot they were a fun change from the normal nursery or living room background. Quirk Family – Valley Forge National Park – 11.15.09

The Quirk family is fairly well known on my blog and here are a few shots from a family shoot I did with them back in the fall. They wanted to head somewhere that would have the colorful fall leaves in the background so what better place than Valley Forge National Park.

Towers Family – Tyler State Park – 10.04.09

Last October I met up with the Towers family to do some photos of the kids as a Christmas present for their grandparents. We met in one of the many grassy areas at Tyler State Park which worked as a great backdrop and allowed the kids to run around and get their energy out when they didn’t need to be in the shot. We started out with the whole group which was absolutely hysterical trying to get 4 kids that age to all stay seated let alone all look at the camera at the same time. After quite a few takes we finally had a winner!

To give them a break we did some individual photos. They were all great helpers standing next to me when it wasn’t their turn trying to get their cousin to laugh and smile.

As you can see these two guys are practically inseparable.

We thought it might be cute to have them all lay in a circle…as you can see it was easier said than done but still quite cute!

Get used to seeing this family and their adorably cute faces because I still have a wedding to post and hopefully another kids shoot once the newest members to the Towers family are born. To see shots from Jack’s family shoot from last spring click HERE. Thanks everyone for a fun filled morning!

James – 6 Months – 11.15.09

Back in November we got lucky and found one of the last few nice weekends of the year to sneak James’s 6 month shoot in before the cold of winter rolled in. They have a fairly large grass area next to their house where many of the trees still had their bright colorful leaves on them. It turned out to be a perfect spot for the photo shoot. James wasn’t quite able to sit up on his own yet so we let him crawl around on a blanket and play with the leaves which made him very happy. Since I am still way behind on my blogs (but working quickly to catch up), this week is already his first birthday! Jorja & Travis – Doylestown Kids Castle – 6.28.09

Slowly but surely I am getting caught up on my blogging. I have always had the theory that if I shoot it, it gets blogged no matter how long they take to go up as is the case with Jorja & Travis’s shoot. This was another of my free shoots that I gave away to build my kids portfolio this past spring. Jorja was the flower girl in her Aunt Liz & Uncle Dan’s wedding that I shot last fall (their photos can be found HERE & HERE). When I was looking for kids to do photo shoots with it just made sense to do one with these two. We headed over to the Kids Castle in Doylestown which is about as kid friendly as you can get. It is a massive 8 story wooden playground with a slide that goes from the top level to the bottom. Yes, I was conned by a small child into going down it incase you were wondering. Don’t worry it was fun, just not made for people over 3 feet tall! Since kids don’t have much of an attention span for sitting still during a photo shoot, and who can blame them with a playground like that next to them, we did the shoot in small bits with lots of play time in between.

The picture on the bottom right is one of my favorites from the whole shoot. We asked Jorja to give her brother a hug and she leaned down and have him a kiss instead. It was so cute!!

How can you tell when the kids are getting bored with doing pictures? See example A below haha…

Portrait sessions don’t always have to be stiff poses with backdrops, some of the best pictures happen when you just let kids be kids.

Watch out CJ I have a feeling you are going to be chasing the boys off with a stick when this girl gets older!

James – 3 Months – 6.26.09

Back in June we did James’s 3 month shoot as part of his watch me grow package. Now that it is almost time for his 6 month shoot I thought I better get in gear and get the blog updated! Continuing with the theme of June it rained (I know shocking) forcing us to move the shoot inside to his nursery. Thankfully he is such a happy kid it doesn’t matter where you do the shoot he always has a big smile on his face. Kayla – 6.14.09

My photo shoot with Kayla was one of the 10 Free photo shoots that I gave away this past spring in order to get my family & kids portfolio jump started. She is an adorable and happy little girl who was a pleasure to take photos of. At the time of the shoot she wasn’t crawling yet so we got mom in there too for some pictures and to help hold her up. I hope to be able to do more shoots of her in the future as she gets bigger. Enjoy!

Olivia – Newborn Shoot – 6.14.09

Olivia was by far the tiniest little newborn I had ever done a photo shoot with weighing in around the mid 5 pound range if I recall correctly! Just like any newborn, this little girl was a champion sleeper! The shoot was split into two different days, due to fading light, and she only woke up for a few minutes at the end on both days. Thankfully sleeping babies are just as cute as awake babies! Here are a few photos from Olivia’s shoot.

Waaaay back in April I took the girls out to Gwynedd Mercy to do a photo shoot. The three of us used to spend quite a bit of time there for cross country practice when I was their coach so the trails seemed like a natural place to go. Despite the fact that it was only April it was extremely hot out so I am thankful they were good sports about letting me drag them around in the hot sun.
